The American Ceramic Society Sections, Divisions and Classes offer many student scholarships, awards and contests. These scholarships are offered to materials science students in various disciplines.
AIST Foundation scholarships are awarded on an annual basis to talented and dedicated students to encourage them to pursue careers within iron-and steel-related industries. Approximately $400,000 will be awarded each year through five types of scholarships; Foundation Scholarships, FeMET Scholarships, StEEL Scholarships, endowment scholarships and Member Chapter scholarships.
Since 1953, the ASM Materials Education Foundation and leading ASM Chapters nationwide have awarded scholarships totaling over $1 million. Currently 37 scholarships are awarded annually through the ASM International Foundation, which is supported by member contributions and other gifts. Most of these awards include a certificate of recognition, travel and housing allowances for attendance at the awards ceremony during the Society’s annual Awards Dinner. The ASM Foundation Scholarship Awards and the ASM Foundation Technical & Community College Scholarship Awards are presented through local ASM chapters.
The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society awards more than $50,000 in cash and prizes each year to students studying metallurgy and materials science engineering. The Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program has been established by the Department of Defense (DoD) to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The program aims to increase the number of civilian scientists and engineers working at DoD laboratories.
The Hertz Foundation Graduate Fellowship empowers outstanding young people pursuing a PhD degree in the applied physical, biological, and engineering sciences with the freedom to innovate and explore their genius in collaboration with leading professors in the field.
